St Giles and William Shelton’s Educational Charity was formed as a result of a Charity Commission Scheme in August 2005 which merged William Shelton’s Educational Foundation (founded in 1672), and St Giles and Bloomsbury Educational Foundation.
Objects of the Charity (as outlined in our Charity Commission Scheme)
(a) to promote the education of children and young people including those in need of financial assistance resident or being educated in the area of benefit, and
(b) to promote the education in accordance with Christian principles of children and young people who are resident or educated in the area of benefit.
Examples of recent grants include: To Schools/organisations
- Funding for salary for pre-school assistant
- “Bethlehem in Soho” art/craft project
- Funding for African Dance workshop
- Purchase of musical instruments
- Part-time learning support tutor
- Art and Drama workshops
- Funding to enable financially needy children to participate in school activity holiday
- Funding for resources to start a church “Sunday School”
To individuals
- Music lessons
- School uniform
- Working with Frank Buttle Trust to make grants to needy families

Trustees’ Meetings

Applications from individuals should be received at least two weeks in advance of the meeting dates.
Applicants will be informed of the result of their application within two weeks of the date of the meeting.
The decision of the Trustees is final.
